21 Miles, a Boy Scout Troop, & the PurTrek Genesis Story

It was the better part of a decade ago, that Kyle Stringham, helping to guide a troop of Boy Scouts on a 21 mile backcountry journey, realized both the importance of good hydration and the hiking challenge of either hauling it all with you, or utilizing the bulky or awkward and inefficient filtration systems of the day.

Hikers, hunters and wildlife watchers have enough to carry. Packing water or water filtration systems just adds to the wear and tear… and in some cases leads people to leave out the hydration altogether. And that can be dangerous.

So as Kyle forded a stream with arms full of trekking poles and hydration systems for these young adventurers, he thought, "I could save 1/2 the hassle if I just combined a trekking pole and a water filter. The idea for PurTrek was born. And the rest, as they say, is history!
